Vitamin D is important to human functioning. It helps maintain bone density, aids in preventing cancer, and also contributes to the overall health of other body systems, including the immune system, the autoimmune system, the cardiovascular system, and the integumentary system (Hoffman, et al, 2010).
People with darker skin are actually more prone to vitamin D deficiency. The question is my local Seattle friends, why are you reading this? Get outside! That’s where I’m going right now! 🙂
