Today I was sick. I couldn’t do my mile repeats or hit a yoga class, but I was able to workout my brain in between naps.
I am currently reading The Smarter Science of Slim, and Jivamukti Yoga. I recently finished Bikram Yoga and Running Within.
Not only is reading great for maintaining a healthy working brain as we age, but reading can also improve your training. The more you read the closer you are to being an expert in the field. Why rely on other’s advice if you can make educated decisions on your own. You are your best coach because no one else knows what is going on in your body but you. However, if you don’t process the knowledge to interpret the data your body is giving you can’t make an educated decision.
Reading about your passion also encourages you to go out and do it. Reading about running and yoga while stuck on the couch has me itching to hit my mile repeats tomorrow! If you are ever in a rut in your training, pick up a book!
What’s the last book you read? If you are interested in any of the books I mentioned check out http://www.squidoo.com/courtneyjulia .
